Becca Moss, from Cotmanhay on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border, died at the age of 26 after a kidney transplant she hoped would allow her to be a mum.
Becca had longed to start a family and had considered surrogacy or adoption, because dialysis meant she was unable to have a baby.
Before her death she lived with her boyfriend John Slaney, a railway worker.
Speaking at the time Becca said: "I need a kidney desperately. I can't move my life forward without it. John and I want to start a family but having a baby is out of the question until I've had the transplant.
"Now I have to sit and wait and hope."
Mum Michelle said she would remember Becca's love of children and the hours that she spent with her half-sister and half-brother, and her sister Sheryl's children, Brandon, CJ and Logan.
She said: "She lived life to the full, she really loved life.
"She desperately wanted to be a mum."
She died on 5 October, 10 days after the failed surgery.
