During the Football season 1979-80 I was Assistant manager to Malcolm Hird who was at that time manager of Stamford Town. We had a young man playing for the team named Keith Alexander. This guy was an absolute gentleman, a truly 100% football man and a pleasure to know. During that season the Stamford team went on to win three trophies, The UCL premier League, The League Knock Out Cup and The FA Vase. Keith was a major player in that team, scoring and creating many goals. It was fitting that at Keiths funeral both Malcolm Hird, myself and every player still surviving from that team was in attendance, such was the esteem in which Keith was held. After the funeral quite a few stories were being swapped and some fond memories recalled. In closing I would say to Keith, thanks for some great memories, sleep well and God bless your family. Having lived on the...
Having lived on the same road as Keith in the 60's and 70's, I can only confirm what everybody else is saying - Keith was a top, top man and admired by all who knew him. The team that we put together from our road and christened Corby Rd Rovers consisted of Michael my brother in goal, Alan Parker, Richard Gale, Kentry and Randolph (Keiths brothers), Richard and Colin Kemp, Arbar, the Meredith brothers, John Greensmith, Schemer, Paul Williams and Davinder Singh, to name just a few. None of us were in Keiths class and it was obvious he would go on to achieve success in the professional field. My heart goes to his family and he will be sorely missed by all. Russell Brown

I am absolutely devastated...
I am absolutely devastated about Keith's passing. He was a perfect gentleman and would do anything for anybody. Having known Keith for over 20yrs it has been a privilege to have known him. I have many memories of Keith from my happy times at both Lincoln City and Mansfield Town. When at Mansfield Money was tight and Keith was youth team manager. Keith was a sub and we were winning.he came on with 2mins left to hold the ball up.With the last kick of the game Keith as thrown himself into a tackle the ref s blown his whistle.Everbody has left the field and Keith was still there laid out with the physio. It turns out he had broken his leg. Keith would give everything for the cause. RIP Keith god bless and deepest sympathy to Helen and family x

I was saddened to...
I was saddened to learn of Keith's death. I think about him regularly tricking his way down the wing for AFC Stamford in 1980 during the season that amazing team won the UCL championship, League Cup and FA Vase. My memory is that he really turned it on scoring 3 and getting an assist in the semi-fnal and then prodding one home from a prone position in the final at Wembley. He later popped up in the FA Cup to score against my other team Wimbledon. He always made me think of a time when anything seemed possible and his late entry into the football league reminded me to keep on trying.
