Macclesfield Town football manager Keith Alexander died at the age of 53 on 3 March, 2010.
Born in Nottingham, he played mostly in the lower leagues but more notably for Lincoln City and Grimsby Town, for whom he notched up a total of around 150 appearances.
Better known as a football manager, he had had spells in charge at Lincoln City, Peterborough United and Macclesfield Town.
The father-of-four was also an international player, turning out for St Lucia three times in 1990.
Alexander, who suffered a brain aneurysm in 2003 when manager of Lincoln City, was taken to hospital before a match in March 2009 after complaining of feeling unwell but was later given a clean bill of health.
He had once again taken time off due to illness, and passed away after arriving home from Macclesfield's evening League Two match at Notts County on March 2, 2010, after attending hospital earlier in the day.
Macclesfield chairman Mike Rance told Press Association Sport: "We're all absolutely devastated. I spoke to Keith last night at about 11.15pm after our game at Notts County and he was in good spirits because, although we lost, we had given a team chasing promotion a good game.
"We were chatting about an FA hearing after he had a row with a referee at Bournemouth, which just shows how passionate he was about the game. It was perhaps fitting that the last conversation we had was about football."

Report this message By RUSSELL BROWN on 4th Mar 2010Having lived on the same road as Keith in the 60's and 70's, I can only confirm what everybody else is saying - Keith was a top, top man and admired by all who knew him. The team that we put together from our road and christened Corby Rd Rovers consisted of Michael my brother in goal, Alan Parker, Richard Gale, Kentry and Randolph (Keiths brothers), Richard and Colin Kemp, Arbar, the Meredith brothers, John Greensmith, Schemer, Paul Williams and Davinder Singh, to name just a few. None of us were in Keiths class and it was obvious he would go on to achieve success in the professional field. My heart goes to his family and he will be sorely missed by all. Russell Brown

Report this message By Ian Bowling on 3rd Mar 2010I am absolutely devastated about Keith's passing. He was a perfect gentleman and would do anything for anybody. Having known Keith for over 20yrs it has been a privilege to have known him. I have many memories of Keith from my happy times at both Lincoln City and Mansfield Town. When at Mansfield Money was tight and Keith was youth team manager. Keith was a sub and we were winning.he came on with 2mins left to hold the ball up.With the last kick of the game Keith as thrown himself into a tackle the ref s blown his whistle.Everbody has left the field and Keith was still there laid out with the physio. It turns out he had broken his leg. Keith would give everything for the cause. RIP Keith god bless and deepest sympathy to Helen and family x

Report this message By jeremy llewellyn on 3rd Mar 2010I was saddened to learn of Keith's death. I think about him regularly tricking his way down the wing for AFC Stamford in 1980 during the season that amazing team won the UCL championship, League Cup and FA Vase. My memory is that he really turned it on scoring 3 and getting an assist in the semi-fnal and then prodding one home from a prone position in the final at Wembley. He later popped up in the FA Cup to score against my other team Wimbledon. He always made me think of a time when anything seemed possible and his late entry into the football league reminded me to keep on trying.
