Bob Lowrey, an 'Inspirational' photographer from Bristol, died on 9 July, 2009, aged 73.
Mr Lowrey, who grew up in Bristol, worked for the Bristol Evening Post and also worked for the Bristol Evening World in a career spanning five decades.
But he was best known for his work for the Western Daily Press, which he joined in September 1958, having just finished his National Service with the army.
He eventually retired from the Western Daily Press in December 1999 but continued to do jobs for Wiltshire's papers on a freelance basis.
Mr Lowrey, who lived in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, had been suffering from bowel cancer and died at Bath's Royal United Hospital.
He was survived by his wife, Jilly, and two children, Sue and Peter.
Report this message By Ann Lunn on 14th Jul 2009Although our friendship was quite short, it was nevertheless a very happy and memorable period in our lives.
Bob always had a kind word and a welcoming smile whenever we met. He leaves us with so many memories of time spent together, and we are so grateful for his friendship.
He will never be forgotten.

Report this message By andy sambidge on 14th Jul 2009Was shocked to hear about Bob's death.
Working in Dubai but previously editor of the Wiltshire Times and Bob was always on standby to help us out as a freelance. Nothing was too much trouble and he helped us out of several difficult situations.
A true gent and will be missed. Condolences to his family.
Report this message By david bunton on 13th Jul 2009I knew Bob Lowrey for nearly 50 years. He was one of the photographers who taught me a lot about Press photography when I first started at the Wiltshire Times. Bob was then working for the Bristol Evening World and after its closure, the Evening Post and Western Daily Press. He came to Trowbridge in 1959 and I started in 1960.
He was a well respected photographer who could have worked for any national newspaper; he was always full of ideas on jobs. Even when he was late turning up for something, we all had to wait for him to put a film in his camera. He will be missed by all his colleagues and I will never get that “half” he always promised me.David & Pat Bunton - Exmouth.
Report this message By Roger Williams on 11th Jul 2009I first met Bob in 1963, when he knocked on the door of my new bedsitter in Trowbridge on the eve of my starting work as a reporter in the Evening Post's "country depot" in the town. I had arrived by train for my first away-from-home job, and knew no one. Bob took me out for a drink (in the long-gone George Hotel) and suddenly I knew I was going to be happy among friends. Bob has been a much-loved friend to me and my wife Pam ever since. I can't imagine there is anyone, among the many thousands he must have met in more than half a century as a press photographer, who has less than fond memories of him. He was permanently in a hurry, but somehow always had time to spare. A lovely man. It is hard to realise he is gone. Our thoughts are with his wife Jilly and their family.
Report this message By Jane Knowles on 11th Jul 2009A dear man, full of fun and a true friend to me and my family. We will miss him so much.
Report this message By Bob Senior on 11th Jul 2009From Bob and Anne Senior. It is still hard to believe that our dear friend who we have known for nearly 50 years is no longer with us. Jilly, we grieve with you in this awful loss. He was a wonderful companion, full of fun. He offered unconditional friendship, sparing nothing to make you feel at home and special. His success in a career of 50 years as a photographer owed a lot to his ability to get on with people, of all levels and backgrounds. He was known and liked by numberless people and organisations in this region. His shocking loss will be felt by so many.
