  • My memory of Charlie...

My memory of Charlie is of a teacher and coach who always had so much time for his you, and who took a genuine interest in all of his pupils. Even years after I left Stokesley, on the occasions we met he took real pleasure from hearing about me and my siblings.

As a PE teacher and cricket coach to me, he was the perfect role model. He taught me not only how to play the game, but how the game should be played, both in theory and by his own example. I played both cricket and hockey with him, and he would be a great member of any team.

Charlie was simply a really nice chap. I remember an incident in a game of hockey that sums him up perfectly for me. I was on a hat-trick when Charlie had a shot....I tapped it in when it would have gone in anyway. Charlie was delighted! I always had the feeling that he took just as much, if not more, pleasure from his friend's and pupils achievements than he did his own.

    Rest in Peace Charlie.
